Thanks for the links, they have been helpful.
 However, I do need some more specific information such as -
Numbers and ethnic origins of slaves in 1665/66/67
and cultural notes of the time including religeon, education and employment (other than the slave trade) such as plantation overseers etc.
Hope you can help or point me in the right direction. Unfortunately the history books in our library do not cover the history of this region.
Cheers

The above is a database of slaves and plantations in Suriname. Unfortunately it is in Dutch. So if you don't understand Dutch it may be a problem.
The following book my be helpful:

Those links were great. I really appreciate my Dutch friends at times like these. I have managed to get on loan the book from the Auckland University Library branch near here.
:) Cheers:)

:D Can anyone help me with information about this period? More specifically the governorship of Francis, Lord Willoughby (died 1666) with his deputy William Byam?
:) I am particularly looking for information about the colony of Surinam during the period as described in "Oroonoko" by Aphra Benn set in 1663 to 1667.
If you have names of Books I may consult (hopefully available here in New Zealand;) ) or internet sites etc...
Cheers
