Suriname problems?

Hi there !
My name is Johan Peroti and I live in Borås, Sweden. I have got a lot of relatives in Suriname but i don't know a lot about your country.
Now I'm working on a essay about what problems there are in Suriname. I need three or four reasons to why Suriname isn't an industrialized country ? And what could make these problems better?
I just need three or four reasons why Suriname isn't an industrialized country. Hard question for me, easier for you.
I would be more than happy for any answer! Please help me!

I would like to learn more about the history and current events in Suriname too. I am from Yuma, Arizona in the U.S. and am doing a Travel Tour PowerPoint presentation for my Regional Geography college class. My assignment is on South America and I chose Suriname for my destination in my "travels". I am interested in all aspects of just the simple, everyday life of the citizens and communities, and would love to talk to anyone. Thanks :)
